Intelligent Peak Load Shifting|How Desiccant Air Dryers Save Costs by Peak-Valley Electricity Price Differences


Against rising energy costs and the dual goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, industrial enterprises must prioritize power cost control for compressed air systems.Energy-saving retrofits for such systems have gained wide attention, with various energy-efficient products launched. Conventional blower heat desiccant air dryers run adsorption and regeneration in a fixed cycle without identifying peak and off-peak power periods.Regeneration, the main power-consuming process, operates during costly daytime peak hours, driving up unit electricity expenses sharply.

To maximize economic benefits of blower heat desiccant air dryers, EPSEA launches two core solutions: intelligent peak shaving and optimized regeneration scheduling. They enable refined power scheduling, cut costs greatly via peak-valley price gaps, and optimize power consumption of compressed air systems.

In 24-hour operation, this mode focuses on adsorption in daytime and arranges regeneration in off-peak night hours. It fully utilizes low off-peak electricity prices to minimize fan and heater power costs. Following the peak shifting concept, it ensures daytime production stability and nighttime cost reduction. This mode is available for customized new units only.

This mode is tailored for energy-saving retrofits of existing dryers with no need for equipment replacement. For conventional units with an 8–12 hour cycle, it retains original functions while upgrading energy efficiency to adapt to actual working conditions and diverse industrial scenarios. Examples are as follows:

1. 8-hour daytime shift: The dryer efficiently absorbs moisture to saturation via twin towers during working hours, and completes regeneration in off-peak night hours to avoid peak tariffs and cut operating costs.

2. 12-hour daytime shift: The twin towers reach saturated adsorption in 12 working hours, with regeneration finished in off-peak hours. It balances stable air supply quality and electricity cost savings for optimal economic benefits.


Intelligent peak-shaving zero loss blower heat desiccant air dryer adopt a twin-tower structure with layered water-resistant silica-alumina gel and activated alumina for deep drying.The intelligent control system allows manual setting of peak and off-peak periods, enabling twin-tower regeneration fully arranged in low-price hours under normal conditions.Only in special cases like initial startup or long shutdown during regeneration, the system will flexibly postpone regeneration  to flat-price hours or even peak hours if needed, prioritizing continuous and stable air supply.Matched with front-end refrigerated air dryers, it achieves optimal power cost control while guaranteeing air quality.

 

The cost-saving performance of intelligent peak shaving and optimized regeneration is fully proven by actual test data, not mere theory.Under standard working conditions of 100 Nm³/h flow rate, 38℃ inlet temperature and 15℃ dew point, the average power consumption is calculated at 0.25 kW per m³/min air drying.With 24-hour operation and 8 hours each for peak, flat and off-peak electricity periods:

Conventional Zero Loss Blower Heat Desiccant Air Dryer: Daily electricity cost reaches 354 CNY, with an annual cost of 118,000 CNY.

 

Intelligent Peak-shaving Zero Loss Blower Heat Desiccant Air Dryer:  By arranging high-energy regeneration in off-peak hours at 0.22 CNY/kWh,daily cost drops to 132 CNY, saving 74,000 CNY annually with a saving rate of 62.71%.

The unit supports flexible custom setting of regeneration time windows. After initial setup, the system automatically schedules full-cycleregeneration to match different production schedules.The optiized regeneration mode is perfectly compatible with existing dryer retrofits and integrates seamlessly into current air compressor stations.
