【Technical News】Key Guidelines for using of Desiccant Air Dryer

Scientific use of post-processing equipment is very important. In order to achieve the ideal dew point performance and ensure the stable operation of the equipment. This text will take the Heatless Modular Desiccant Dryer (Note 1) as an example. Summaries the six key usage considerations.

 1. Don't exceed the rated processing capacity

Different treatment amount of Modular Desiccant Dryer are configured with different numbers of adsorption cylinders, which is to control the flow rate and the necessary adsorption time. If the same equipment increases its processing capacity, the flow rate of compressed air in the adsorption cylinder will increase, and the contact time of compressed air and adsorbent will be shortened, which is not conducive to the adsorption of water, the dew point of outlet gas will become worse.

 2. Don't exceed the design temp

The intake temperature should not exceed the design temperature, if the design temperature, it must not exceed the max intake temp of the Modular Desiccant Dryer, but also pay attention to the selection. As the temp increases, the thermal movement of molecules in the adsorbent pore intensifies, leading to the reduction of water adsorption and reducing the working performance. Increasing the temperature may also lead to the destruction of the structure of the adsorbent, accelerate the aging, and shorten its service life.

If there is no air dryer in front.Pay special attention to the pipe layout, and try to reduce the intake temperature of the Modular Desiccant Dryer. If the use of air-cooled air compressor, especially to do a good job in the machine room ventilation.

 3. Don't lower the intake pressure

Under the same standard condition treatment amount, the pressure is low and the gas flow rate is fast, which is not conducive to water adsorption. At the same time, according to the calculation formula, when the pressure is reduced, more regenerative gas volume is needed, and the pressure increase can save the regenerative gas volume (Note 2).

If the pressure of the air compressor changes obviously during operation, please contact EPSEA after-sales personnel to adjust the regeneration volume or replace the Modular Desiccant Dryer.

 4. Don't arbitrarily adjust the regeneration air volume
The Heatless Modular Desiccant Dryer is the use of variable pressure regeneration, part of the dry finished gas through the throttle decompression, the relative humidity is further reduced, and then flow through the wet adsorbent, absorb the water inside and discharge the machine, to complete the regeneration of the adsorbent. If the pressure of the front end air compressor is constant, the regenerative gas maintained after debugging is also certain, which can achieve better dew point. It is not advisable to reduce recycled gas blindly, which will cause gas dew point to decrease; it is not recommended to waste compressed air.

In a special case, if no heat dryer is running at low flow for a long time, please contact EPSEA after-sales staff to guide the reduction of regenerative gas consumption. Agents and end users should keep in mind that the air compressor regeneration volume must be adjusted after the flow returns to the rated value.

 5.Don't arbitrarily adjust the cycle

The design of the Heatless Modular Desiccant Dryer is based on shallow adsorption, fast in and fast out. The adsorption cycle is too long will lead to the relatively over-saturated adsorbent, the regeneration stage cannot be completely resolved, the residual water content is high, the adsorption capacity decreases, and the gas dew point continues to deteriorate. If this condition is found, measures must be taken to completely regenerate the desiccant, and then set a reasonable cycle period according to the actual situation.

 6. Degrease and remove liquid water before entering the equipment

It is best to connecting with an air dryer before the Modular Desiccant Dryer. A small amount of condensed water has little impact on the modular desiccant dryer, but a large amount of condensed water will first reduce the adsorption capacity, resulting in a sharp rise in the air dew point. Secondly, soaking the adsorbent in water reduces its strength, decreases its activity, and in severe cases, ruptures and pulverizes it.
Oil substances will gather on the surface of the adsorbent to form an oil film, so that the adsorption performance is greatly reduced, and it is difficult to recover. Therefore, they must be removed before entering the incoming Modular Desiccant Dryer.

EPSEA is one of the pioneers in developing and launching Modular Desiccant Dryers in China. It has been 9 years since the introduction of our modular desiccant dryer products. Through continuous improvement and iteration, we now offer high-quality products that are both energy-efficient and highly effective. (participated in the formulation of industry standards for Desiccant Air Dryers in China. The standard number is JB/T 10532-2017.)

Technological innovation is boundless; it is not only the strategic core of EPSEA's technology but also the perpetual force driving us to continually surpass ourselves and pursue excellence. We are dedicated to creating greater value for our customers and committed to becoming compressed air systems experts.

Note 1

Modular Desiccant Air Dryer refers to the use of adsorption principle to separate the water vapor in the compressed air, so as to achieve the purpose of drying compressed air equipment. When the compressed air passes through the modular dryer, the adsorbent in the adsorption tube (usually silicone, activated alumina, molecular sieve, etc.) adsorbs the water vapor in the compressed air, so the air is dried. On the other hand, when the adsorbent is at high temperature and low pressure, the adsorption capacity will be greatly weakened. Taking advantage of this feature, the desiccant is heated and regenerated to realize double chamber cycle and obtain the ability of continuous gas supply.

Note 2
Q=P₁/P*100%

Q is the proportion of regenerated gas volume, P is the working pressure (absolute pressure), and P₁ is the regenerated pressure (absolute pressure)
