【EPSEA PRODUCTS】R&D Background

Since its inception, EPSEA has prioritised research, development and innovation, achieving mastery of core technology and consistently driving product and technology improvement.

The high power fibre laser cutting machines currently available on the market have encountered several problems when cutting and processing various sheets.

Cutting carbon steel with oxygen
For this type of customer, although oxygen is suitable for cutting extremely thick plates (20-50mm), there is little demand in the current market for such thicknesses. The main cutting plate thickness is still within 20mm, with slow cutting efficiency. In addition, the fault surface contains an oxidised layer and there is a potential for slag residue and roughness on the cross section grain.

Cutting carbon steel with liquid nitrogen
When using a liquid nitrogen cutter, if the thickness of the plate is more than 10mm, the cutter cannot achieve the expected effect, and the slag hanging is serious. During the cutting process, the air compressor, cold dryer and adsorption dryer equipment still need to work and consume electricity, and the cost of liquid nitrogen is very high.

Cutting carbon steel with air
The most noticeable issue is the significant amount of hanging slag in the cutting section, which requires costly grinding treatment (either manually or with a purchased deburring machine). This also increases the risk of surface scratches on the workpiece.

To ensure optimum cutting performance and cost efficiency, EPSEA has carried out extensive research and testing and has developed a new solution for the supply of auxiliary gases for laser cutting-nitrogen units.

Technical programme
Design Principle
It primarily utilises the Pressure Swing Adsorption principle to isolate oxygen and nitrogen from compressed air. Oxygen and nitrogen exhibit varying rates of diffusion or adsorption forces within the micropores of the carbon molecular sieve. Under equilibrium conditions, oxygen and nitrogen are adsorbed onto the carbon molecular sieve at almost equal rates. However, oxygen diffuses through the micropores of the carbon molecular sieve much faster than nitrogen due to the larger gaps in its structure. By utilising the adsorption kinetic property, the carbon molecular sieve adsorbs oxygen at a faster rate than nitrogen, allowing nitrogen to be collected in large quantities over an extended period of time under non-equilibrium conditions. This nitrogen is then exported as product gas. The adsorbent can be desorbed under high or low pressure and regenerated for continuous and varying purity nitrogen output.

Product Features

The machine fully caters to the common requirements for cutting steel plates, featuring a PLC with a variety of built-in working modes. These modes consist of purity modes such as 90/92/95/99% purity mode and plate modes; 1-1.5mm galvanised plate mode and 3-5mm cold plate mode, catering to high, medium and low purity needs of users and meeting varied steel processing requirements. With a laser cutting power of 15KW, it can cleanly cut through a 12mm thick carbon steel without a burr and also can cut up to 16mm thickest carbon steel.

Laser cutting often results in issues such as oxidation, burrs, and hanging slag. However, our specialised PSA laser cutting nitrogen generator is specifically designed to flawlessly tackle the problem of air cutting carbon steel hanging slag and oxygen cutting thin carbon steel section oxidation. Depending on the demands of your cutting needs, our generator can provide precise control over nitrogen purity and pressure, thereby effectively eliminating burrs and achieving a more polished cutting section.

The apparatus is adeptly integrated and user-friendly, equipped with a one-touch activation function and the option to choose from various cutting modes.

The nitrogen generator employs a unique high-pressure carbon molecular sieve, A/B dual-tower PSA adsorption, and regeneration principle, ensuring repeated adsorption and desorption, and uninterrupted production of nitrogen, thereby eliminating the need to frequently replenish liquid nitrogen or change cylinders.

The equipment has a high safety coefficient and degree of automation. A time-delay solenoid valve is utilized to prevent the impact of air (gas source) on the nitrogen generator, effectively regulating its production efficiency. The gas supply pipeline is outfitted with a pressure sensor, a gas flow meter (and can be optionally equipped with a digital flow meter for recording the cumulative flow rate of nitrogen), and nitrogen purity analyser, among other control devices, to achieve complete control of the nitrogen generation equipment.

Nitrogen generator program for cutting effects, including liquid nitrogen and air cutting, as well as oxygen cutting.

Proper maintenance of complete nitrogen systems is crucial for optimal performance.
In addition to maintaining the compression unit, regular maintenance of the air compressor and cold dryer is recommended.

Reference the instruction manual provided with the compressor for maintenance guidelines. The compressor's initial maintenance period is 500 hours, followed by maintenance every 2,000 hours (about twice a year).

It is recommended to replace the filter element after six months of equipment operation. If the residual oil and water are not promptly removed, they can contaminate the carbon molecular sieve of the nitrogen generator, resulting in carbon molecular sieve poisoning. This can cause a noticeable decrease in molecular sieve adsorption efficiency and activity, ultimately leading to losses for the user.
